In this post I will do my best to throw some light on the possible answers to the question: If EFT (Emotional Freedom Techniques) is so fantastic why doesn’t everyone know about it?

To begin, I am going to assume that, to be asking this question, you have been subjected to a barrage of babble about a never-before-heard-of form of alternative healing and probably from someone with whom you found yourself engaged in conversation at some get together and found yourself drawn in by their sheer enthusiasm.

In my opinion the short answers are:

1   Because the general public has been so conditioned (read brainwashed) by Western Medicine into the belief that the only option available to us, if we become ill, is through Western medical intervention, that they have their heads firmly buried in the sand and are unable to consider the possibility that any other modality could have any benefit at all.

2   Alternative or Complementary Healing practices are widely regarded as la la, snake oil or witchcraft and which, for all but the desperate, such as those that Western medicine has been unable to help, are not an option deserving a second thought.

3   Many people shy away from anything that remotely resembles anything to do with the mind, emotions or psychology, after all, weren’t we taught to stop moaning and grin and bear it. Useful advice if illness is your goal.

4   Many people find it unbelievable that a single healing modality can be so effective in the treatment of so many different compromised health issues.

If your views fit any or all of the above you may want to read on.

Your first reaction to the realization that what is being discussed here is a form of alternative or complementary therapy may well be one of skepticism and this is good because after all, in today’s world where scams and con artists are common place, one needs to have a healthy portion of skepticism to survive.

You might think, for example, that alternative healing practices are a croc and you would likely be amongst the majority. At least, that’s the case here in Australia. But wait, are you aware that in the USA it is estimated that around 50% of people seeking assistance for compromised health conditions currently choose alternative healing practices over more traditional medical practices?

Think back to when you first heard about chiropractors or acupuncturists or hypnosis clinics and then reflect on just how long they have been around and to what extent they have been accepted into our mainstream health system here in Oz. My own chiropractor displays a board listing people who have referred new patients and guess what? About a quarter of the names on the board are General Medical Practitioners. (Medical Doctors)

The successful treatment of a number of common conditions through the use of acupuncture is well documented and becoming more accepted by medicos as well.

Take a look at a directory such as Natural Therapy Pages and it will be instantly apparent that there is a truckload of Complementary Healing disciplines all promising beneficial results for a variety illnesses. Many of these are based on ancient principals – some thousands of years old – well before the advent of so called “western medicine”. How is that they are still around? I’ll let you into a secret. They work!

Now consider when you first heard of Reiki. Is this where la la land begins for you? Guess what again. The use of Reiki is now encouraged in some larger medical facilities to aid in patient recovery and return to wellness. “Yeah but there isn’t any scientific proof that Reiki actually works” I hear you say – yet its encouragement in hospitals is a sure recognition that it has been recognized as beneficial even if it isn’t backed (yet) by science.

Now this is where the difficulty starts to rear its head. Western medicine and all its associated research and medicinal chemistry is aimed squarely at attempting to cure illness and disease after it is already established and this mostly involves either surgical procedures or doses of chemicals of one form or another administered in a variety of ways. In essence, Western medicine attempts to deal with the effects of illness.

Whilst I believe that there will always be a place for Western medicine, because of the billions of dollars turned over every day and the great many people who have a vested interest in its many facets, it is in their best interests to maintain its momentum.

From the perspective of the Western medicine fraternity, there is major value in maintaining closed ranks within the industry and consequently there prevails a culture of remaining behind a screen comprising of what is considered to be scientifically proven data to the exclusion of all else. Many elements within this same culture take a dim view of anyone within their ranks that elects to step outside the screen.

More recent science, however, is finding itself in a convergence with the principals that have been in use in certain Eastern countries for thousands of years and substantial evidence is being uncovered and scientifically proven that the state of our minds (thoughts, focused intent, emotions) has a powerful effect not only on the health of our bodies but on our very DNA.

If you need some convincing of this take a browse through “The Biology of Belief” by Bruce H. Lipton, PhD. and “The Devine Matrix” by Gregg Braden.

Ancient Eastern cultures have long known that subtle energies (Qi) flow along established pathways (meridians) within our bodies and any imbalance or restriction of these energies has an adverse affect on our bodies and if this affect is not addressed and resolved, sooner or later illness follows . In essence, Eastern methodology focuses on targeting the potential or root cause of illness.

Enter EFT. I’m not going to go into the background of the progression of people and events leading up to where EFT is today: if you want to explore this you can at: http://www.masteringeft.com/MeridianTappingTimes/May-18-09/NewletterContent051809.htm within EFT Master Patricia Carrington’s article “The Future of Meridian Tapping”.

I am however going to offer this: EFT falls within the arena of what is widely referred to as “Energy Psychology”.

With this in mind, your second reaction, having now had to take on board that emotions are involved as well as psychology is likely to chill any interest that you may have been beginning to take. But wait, I’m coming to the good bit.

EFT combines ancient healing principals with recently developed protocols (see the above article by Pat Carrington Ph.D.) to offer such a FANTASTIC healing modality for both mind and body that you can’t afford to bury your head in the sand and write it off for any reason. That’s why it is currently sweeping USA and UK.

Further, EFT offers a doorway through which one can embark on or further ones spiritual growth.

Take any illness or compromised health condition that comes to mind and do a search on the Main EFT site at www.eftuniverse.com for that illness, to see the success enjoyed by both Professional and lay users of EFT and you will begin to understand what drives the enthusiasm behind people using it on both themselves and others.

Have a good scan through the pages of the above website and take in the number of Professional medicos bravely stepping over the safety screen and embracing these techniques and ask yourself: why? Answer: …because not only do they work but the results of their application are PHENOMENAL.

So, don’t be the last to find out about the benefits that EFT offer. Rather, be one of the first to embrace something that is likely the most significant development in the arena of healing (emotional, mental, physical and spiritual) in your lifetime.

Don’t be deterred by the fact that the eighty page Manual describing the Basic EFT Recipe is FREE for anyone to download from the website and get started using it in the time it takes to read it. Neither succumb to skepticism at the claim by its developer Gary Craig that “EFT often works where nothing else has” but rather embrace the claim that EFT can be “tried on anything” and give it a go on yourself.

Notice that I said “on yourself”. How empowering is that for those of you who would rather suffer in silence than expose your emotional vulnerability to anyone else?

Try it for yourself and if you follow the manual instructions, whilst paying heed to any disclaimers designed to protect you from foolhardily going into doorways best left closed and you may well be the one at some future gathering voicing your enthusiasm.

Most importantly, don’t be the one with your head buried in the sand as you will certainly miss out on the best thing to happen to you in this lifetime.

Be prepared for miraculous results but if for any reason you don’t get them, before you are tempted to succumb to the old familiar mentality again, take the step over your screen and invest a very little of your time and money on a session with one of the Certified Practitioners listed on this site. I guarantee you will never bury your head in the sand again.

eft fantastic;

Janet (name changed for privacy) attended my clinic to gain relief from an intense fear of snakes.

So intense was her phobia that Janet could not even bear to look at a picture of a snake and just the mention of the word “snake” would send her into fear mode with goose bumps.

What was interesting about Janet’s case was that she was visiting Perth from New Zealand which, to the best of my knowledge is snake free so my curiosity was aroused as to what could have caused such an intense emotional response.

After some questioning in an attempt to become as specific as possible Janet revealed that it was more the way that they move their head “cobra like” that struck fear into her.

So we started with a fairly global round of tapping on “…this fear of snakes” just to take the emotional edge off before proceeding further.

Further questioning revealed that Janet had spent a considerable amount of time as a child listening to her Father relate stories about his experiences during the second world war in the dense jungles of Malaya wherein he was required to stand sentry duty along with other soldiers during pitch black nights with the only allowable means of communication being to tap on the butt of his rifle.

These jungles were rife with venomous reptiles and guess what? He was intensly afraid of snakes.

Relating this story and it’s associated visual image sent Janet’s emotional intensity up to a 9 (on a 0 – 10 scale, with 10 representing maximum intensity) and after a further round of tapping this was reduced to a 5. Janet’s image then shifted to a barrier preventing further snake images and further tapping shifted this barrier to reveal a “huge eye” amongst trees.

These images seemed to me to replicate what a child’s imagination could easily create given the jungle stories, so we pressed on with “even though I took on Dad’s fear of snakes as a child when he told me those stories,…” and worked with some specific images which allowed the SUD (subjective units of distress) levels to reduce significantly whereat the fear was replaced with a deep sadness >10.

Intent on following the more intense emotion, we delved into the source of the sadness to find that – Janet was one of the few people to which her Father would relate any of his wartime experiences and clearly these intimate discussions were of a traumatic nature to him and being a sensitive child she recognized that relating the stories helped him to cope.

A few rounds of tapping bought the sadness down from 10 to 1 but the sadness was just as quickly replaced by a sense of guilt. Janet felt that she was abandoning her Father (long since passed) by letting go of the sadness that she had been carrying for him for his inability to cope with his wartime traumas. Further tapping bought the guilt from 6 to 0 after which further tapping on the snake fear reduced it from 5 to 0.

Some further work ensued on beliefs surrounding carrying burdens for others and the session wound up after some tapping on deserving to be happy.

Janet was due to return to New Zealand the following day and a week or so later I received the following email:

….you will be interested to know that while at the Airport in Perth I subjected myself to photos of snakes in a book. Not easy but did manage to do it and felt that was a real break through. Would normally head in the opposite direction.

Since then I have had one instance when there were some on TV and although I reacted instinctively(?) to start, I told (my husband) not to change the channel and I watched while a chap tried catching one and letting it bite him on the wrist. I have to admit that I didn’t enjoy it and after a time had to say I’d had enough. Gently, gently I think I will achieve. To have done that would not have been imaginable before. J.

A few weeks later the following email arrived:

I feel clever. There has just been a local news programme that had an item on people catching snakes. I knew it was going to be on and really ’in your face’ from the adverts but I made myself stay and watch and actually managed to watch most of it. After a couple of minutes I felt I had pushed it far enough but (my husband) commended me on what I achieved. How about that???

The more I think about it the more I think this is incredible. J.

What I think is most remarkable about this case is the way in which Janet “took on” her Father’s fear simply by listening to his stories and mentally re-living his traumatic experiences prompting intense phobia over snakes without ever having been any where near one.

Janet’s email comments reiterate the fact that while we don’t necessarily want to fall in love with creatures such as snakes, spiders etc. after having dealt with earlier fears of such creatures by the use of EFT, the emotional intensity is effectively removed allowing a rational approach with any subsequent creature confrontations.

With the recent arrival in Western Australia of NLP & EFT Master Rehana Webster BSc, this State and Perth in particular is poised to move Energy Psychology and more specifically EFT, into the spotlight even further.

With two of only three of Australia’s EFT Masters now residing in Perth, along with resident Master Peter Graham, who has worked tirelessly to promote these amazing techniques through instructional workshops providing both lay and professional people with the necessary skills to apply them, Rehana brings with her a wealth of professional experience and her own unique style and methodologies to compliment this rapidly growing field of Natural Healing.

EFT is one of a number of emerging modalities which, along with NLP (Neuro Linguistic Programming), TAT (Tapas Accupressure Technique), NAET and others, come under the general umbrella of Energy Psychology.

A great deal of interest is being taken worldwide in these modalities and numerous studies and experiments are being conducted, (mostly in USA) to determine the scientific bases for the phenomenal results being achieved by a rapidly increasing number of practitioners worldwide.

Eminent Scientists such as W.A. Tiller Ph. D. “Conscious Acts of Creation”, Bruce H. Lipton Ph. D. “The Biology of Belief”, Dawson Church Ph. D. “The Genie in your Genes” to name just a few are providing compelling proof that justifies, at a quantum physical level, the science behind the undeniable results that are being experienced using Energy Psychology Techniques such as EFT.

During her time in New Zealand, Rehana Webster has facilitated many training workshops, thereby resulting in many respected Practitioners now having well established practices in that country and her decision to move to Perth surely means that many more will be produced here also to serve the ever increasing interest by Western Australians who are becoming evermore aware of the economies and effectiveness of these techniques.

Trained Practitioners utilizing the Emotional Freedom Techniques either exclusively or in a prominent role in their clinical work with people suffering from the effects and stresses of emotionally burdensome memories whether of recent or long past traumatic events are consistently achieving better than a 90% success rate in rapidly and permanently dissolving associated “blockages” in their client’s energetic field at a sub atomic level through the use of these techniques, thereby providing them with emotional freedom, whilst simultaneously empowering them with the knowledge required to effectively deal with similar events in the future.

With the belief that most of us have inherited, that we must grin and bear whatever life dishes out to us when it comes to emotionally charged “stuff”, it comes as no surprise to learn that buried emotional stress from issues left un-resolved has been shown to significantly contribute to compromised health states. These may range from shortage of breath to serious, or worse still, terminal diseases.

It is, however, both surprising and difficult to comprehend that any one modality, especially an alternate modality, could possibly be as effective in dealing with such a plethora of compromised health states as is being accredited to the successful application of EFT.

The founder of EFT, Gary Graig, along with co-authors David Feinstein Ph. D. and Donna Eden, in their book “The Promise of Energy Psychology”, presents a synthesis of earlier developmental work by a multitude of eminent professionals that provides the lead-up to the advent of EFT as, in its simplest form, an easily learnable and easily applicable protocol.

Gary Craig’s suggestion is to “try it on everything” and this effectively summarizes the attitude adopted by most EFT practitioners. Whether a client presents with difficulties dealing with issues involving fear, anger, grief, guilt, depression, addiction, dyslexia, or post traumatic stress, EFT has been shown to provide, at the very least, substantial improvement, but most frequently provides results bordering on the miraculous.

Clients presenting with lesser, yet highly debilitating and energy sapping conditions such as panic attacks, phobia, resentment, frustration, sadness, cravings and undesirable behavioral patterns have their issues dealt with in a similarly remarkable way.

What is, perhaps, the most remarkable aspect of the Emotional Freedom Techniques is their ability to provide relief from physical pain. Effective resolution of underlying emotional drivers has been proven to greatly enhance our bodies’ capacity to heal physically in many instances when associated emotional stress is no longer present. Spontaneous pain reduction or complete alleviation, even from long term pain is common during an EFT session.

Equally remarkable is the phenomenon that, whilst working on physical pain presenting in their clients, EFT practitioners frequently dissolve any associated emotional charge.

A web search of compromised health states associated with stress produces a long list, as does a search of diseases for which there is “no known cure”. How good then, is news that “EFT often works where nothing else has”(Craig) and a search of the main EFT website www.emofree.com yields a large data base of articles enthusiastically written by lay and professional proponents of EFT describing successes in treating many compromised physical and mental states formally falling into these categories.

The EFT Professionals Australia group is comprised of dedicated practitioners each of whom carry as a minimum, Advanced EFT Training, having worked with a wide spectrum of conditions, including, not only those mentioned earlier in this article, but also in sporting performance enhancement, corporate presentation and sales performance enhancement, counseling, life coaching, drug and alcohol rehabilitation, sexual abuse, child abuse, pain management and an ever lengthening list of others.

Basic EFT is easy to learn (even by children) and considering that it can be taken with you wherever you (and your hand) go, provides a powerful tool to deal with the negative emotional effects of whatever “nasty” event life dishes out before it manifests into a debilitating state of stress or illness.

Imagine being able to give your children the gift of empowerment to deal with their daily stresses before they become lifetime burdens and restrictions, simply by tapping with their finger tips on a few spots on their head and torso.

At a time when we have increasing incidents of physical and cyber bullying, we now have, readily available, the perfect tool to deal effectively with it. Not only is this powerful “alternative” medicine it may well be the difference between life and death. How often do we see news reports of teenage suicides resulting from this insidious activity.

But it doesn’t  stop there. EFT enables us to easily replace our disempowering negative beliefs (most frequently, lovingly taught to us by our dear parents) with life enhancing positive beliefs. Only the sky is the limit.

EFT Professionals Australia lists Member Practitioners located in Perth. A visit to www.EFTProfessionals.info will enable you to find a certified EFT Practitioner near you.
